ABOUT US
We are building a world-class 200-bed hospital and neuroscience research institute in Ukambani, Kenya — combining clinical excellence, precision medicine, and digital innovation to tackle the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) crisis.

Leadership
The journey from PAIN to PASSION to PRACTICE has shaped my vision of building a Word-Class Hospital in Ukambani, Kenya. At age 10, I came home to find my mother lying under a tree, groaning in pain. The PAIN of witnessing my mother's suffering ignited a deep PASSION within me to advocate for the NEEDS of low resource & vulnerable populations. This led to my resolve of pursuing medicine & public health with the drive of making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. My personal experience has fueled my commitment to address Africa`s Health Care challenges with the aim of promoting growth of a healthy, resilient and innovative industry. Join me on this transformative journey as we work towards a future where quality tertiary healthcare is accessible to ALL in the African Continent.

Our Strategic Approach
J.P. Muia Medicine is built on a long-term, impact-driven strategy to transform access to high-quality tertiary healthcare in Africa, starting with the Ukambani region of Kenya. Our strategy integrates clinical excellence, data-driven decision-making, research leadership, and equitable access to care.
We address the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through a scalable, sustainable, and patient-centered healthcare model that bridges clinical services, research, and public health policy.
1. Integrated Tertiary Care Hub
We are developing a world-class tertiary hospital model that brings specialized care closer to underserved populations. This integrated hub will deliver advanced services in cardiology, oncology, neurology, psychiatry, nephrology, trauma care, and chronic disease management under one coordinated system.
2. Phased Growth & Sustainability
Our expansion follows a structured, multi-phase roadmap:
-
Phase 1: Foundational clinical services and diagnostics
-
Phase 2: Specialized services, trauma care, and telemedicine integration
-
Phase 3: Establishment of a neurobehavioral and genomic research center
-
Phase 4: Regional expansion, innovation, and global collaboration
This phased approach ensures operational sustainability, workforce readiness, and financial resilience.
3. Technology-Enabled Care Delivery
We leverage digital health solutions, telemedicine, and data platforms to improve early diagnosis, continuity of care, and long-term management of chronic conditions—especially for rural and low-income populations.
4. Policy & Health Systems Impact
J.P. Muia Medicine actively engages with policymakers, insurers, donors, and academic institutions to influence healthcare system design, promote evidence-based policy, and strengthen national and regional health systems.
5. Equity & Community-Centered Access
Equitable access is central to our strategy. We aim to reduce geographic, financial, and workforce disparities by embedding community outreach, prevention programs, and culturally appropriate care into our service model.
Research & Innovation
Research and innovation are foundational to J.P. Muia Medicine’s mission. We are committed to building strong African research infrastructure that addresses the continent’s unique disease burden, genetic diversity, and health system challenges.
Ukambani Neurological Research Institute (UNRI)
At the heart of our innovation agenda is the Ukambani Neurological Research Institute (UNRI)—a dedicated center focused on neurobehavioral science, genomics, and precision medicine for Africa.
UNRI was conceived to address:
-
Underrepresentation of African populations in global health data
-
Limited neuroscience research capacity on the continent
-
High and rising burden of neurological and mental health conditions
-
Brain drain of African researchers and clinicians
Key Research Focus Areas
